Lorquí City Council participates in the 5th Child Friendly Cities Congress (27/11/2019)

The congress has consisted in highlighting the importance of the right to participation of children and adolescents

The City Council of Lorquí attends the V Congress of Child Friendly Cities as a municipality that has this recognition.

The event, held at the CaixaForum Madrid auditorium, welcomed more than 400 people whose central theme was the right to participation, one of the four guiding principles together with non-discrimination, the best interests of the child or the right to life , survival and development.

The congress, which coincides with the month in which the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child is celebrated, was inaugurated by the Minister of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, María Luisa Carcedo.

In addition, both children and young people have participated in the preparation and inauguration of this meeting by contributing their ideas and opinions.

Joaquín Hernández, mayor of Lorquí wanted to highlight the importance of these meetings.

"Giving voice to the youngest is vitally important for them to feel part of their own community and create a society in which they are enforced for the fulfillment of their rights and values, as well as to motivate them to have an active role in their environment".

To conclude the convention, the Declaration of Colonia de Alcaldes y Alcaldesas was signed, where the mayor of Lorquí participated.

This proclamation is the public manifestation of the local authorities of its renewal of the commitment to the Convention on the Rights of the Child within the framework of its 30th anniversary.

By signing the Declaration of Colonia de Alcaldes Alcaldesas they are committed to demonstrate concrete, sustainable and measurable results for children;

promote meaningful and inclusive child participation;

and eliminate discrimination against children and young people in the development and implementation of different policies and actions.

From the City of Lorquí an action plan is being launched to renew the recognition of Child Friendly Cities for the next year, we also have a Child and Youth Council formed by children and youth of the municipality that transfer their suggestions and needs to have effective solutions.
